Community celebrations become meaningful when people step forward to participate, volunteer, organize, and welcome others.
For decades, Jimmy Chan has played an important role in bringing Montreal's Chinese Canadian community into the city's multicultural celebrations.
Beginning in the 1980s, Jimmy helped organize Chinese community participation in Montreal's Canada Day Parade, bringing together cultural associations, performers, volunteers, and families.
Through traditional lion dances, dragon dances, drumming, and other cultural presentations, Chinese Canadian participants have shared their heritage with fellow Montrealers while celebrating their pride in being Canadian.
This tradition has helped connect generations, welcome new immigrants, and demonstrate how cultural identity and Canadian identity can be celebrated together.
Today, the same spirit of participation and inclusion continues to inspire the work of One World One Humanity.
Jimmy Chan is now actively working with other community leaders to bring back Montreal's Canada Day Parade, so that families, cultural communities and performers can once again march together on July 1.
